Score: 9.2

Here’s a square-pressed Maduro from 601 Master Blender José ‘Pepin’ Garcia, by way of United Tobacco. This cigar’s dark, oily wrapper is so toothy that Ray Charles could probably read it. There are some moderate veins, par for the Maduro course, and the gold and blue band looks especially regal against the dark chocolate wrapper. I find myself eminently impressed with its class.

At a sniff, I find a barnyard smell with some sweetness. The body is solid with some slight give, indicating that it’s well constructed with proper humidity. The head is enclosed neatly with a triple cap that obliges me with a clean cut, revealing an earthy prelight taste through an easy draw. The box press feels comfortable in my mouth. Toasting and lighting takes a little effort, but once lit I am rewarded with aromatic clouds of sweet, creamy, smoke.

The flavor profile initially consists of sweet cocoa and coffee. Settling into the first half inch, the cocoa sweetness matures into rich, dark chocolate. The burn, while not perfect, requires no correction. By the end of the first third notes of leather have developed, balancing the chocolate and coffee flavors in a complex, medium to full-bodied smoke. The ash is a firm, granite gray, though it hangs precariously at about 1 inch.

After 1 and 2/3 inches, I find that the initial sweetness has returned and is trading call-and-response choruses with some spice. Further into the second third the complexity deepens, and I find the smoke becoming ever-stronger.

As I begin the final third, I’m having some trouble getting the band off. In fact, the warmth of the cherry seems to have no effect on the band's gum, did they seal this thing with epoxy? A serious crescendo in strength has made this a full-bodied smoke, though it retains its complexity. After finally setting it down, four nuggets of ash, < 1" of stogie, and a beaming Hayward are the only evidence it ever existed. An excellent cigar, rated 9.2 overall.

This is like smoking a chocolate bar with some espresso beans in it. The presentation of this cigar is perfect. It's got one of the best bands I've ever seen, the box press is perfect, and the maduro wrapper looks great. I thought it was of medium strength, but definetly very full on the flavor. It's a Nicaraguan puro but I'd say give this cigar a try if you're a fan of San Andres Morron, Mata Fina or Broadleaf maduros. Flavor-wise I thought this was similar to the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Maduro, Montecristo Reserva Negra and Capoeira.

I agree with Michael in So. California I lit this 601 and after the first puff it produced so much smoke I thought my head was on fire, That withstanding this is clearly one of the best cigars I ever smoked, in fact of the "best of" sampler I bought this was the best so far. the burn although fast was even the consistancy was good the draw was overwhelming you just need shorter puff LOL, the appearance is perfect the construction was seemlesswith that nice oily madura sheen the taste was outstanding, nice sweet creamy taste.. Just remember small puffs. I wish I could afford these all the time. Thanx for the sale Famous!!

This is truely a great medium bodied smoke that has bit of a kick at the end. Lots of flavor that is smooth and even- complex with coffee and cocoa. Worth every penny!

This cigar has everything a good Nicaraguan puro should have: rich flavor, great Pepin construction, beautifully smooth wrapper, and good power. It starts out mellow but watch out and smoke it slowly...half way through is turns into a power-house smoke. It's got a similar vibe to the Rocky Patel Decade but with a tighter draw and perhaps a bit more strength.

This is a True Nicaruaguan Smoke

This stick starts with a peppery sweetness I have found in most Nicaraguan puros. The draw was perfect, producing enough smoke to start my own rain cloud. Smoke was smooth and creamy with many flavor nuances. Burn was straight, construction was beautiful. Medium in strength and full body in flavor. The only problem I had was this cigar wants to be smoked faster then I prefer, so the burn wanted to dwindle out quickly. Over all I am really satisfied with this smoke. Worth the money!!
