With the cooler weather here I've found myself taking fewer smoke breaks at work and at bars recently. Personally I'm at a point where I know I want to quit and consequently I'm trying to keep my cigarette intake to a minimum. I can go a whole workday without one, no problem. At home, I'm more likely to chew gum. The hardest obstacle? Having a beer or a nice scotch and trying to abstain from lighting up. I've always maintained that a drink and smoke go together like a burger and fries.
So the few times I do succumb, I have to shamefully put on my jacket, cover my drink and head outside. With the cold wind whipping up as winter approaches, I'm constantly reminded of just how inconvenient a habit this is. Then I start to reminisce for the days when a visit to the bar meant hanging your jacket on the stool, throwing down your pack of smokes and settling in for a long afternoon or evening of drinking with friends and strangers.
