LOUISVILLE, KY - With a smoking ban looming in the lurches, Louisville has become quite a political battleground for the issue. Mayor Jerry Abramson has threatened to veto Louisville Metro Council's proposal which would exempt businesses that install separate ventilation systems in designated smoking areas. The Mayor's been strongly encouraging support for his plan, which includes a wide range ban with only 1 exemption, the
Churchill Downs. Cres Bride, owner of a local Pub, suggested Abramson to be a "hypocrite for allowing smoking where children can be harmed, but outlawing it in places where children aren't admitted." Bride and many business owners who stand aside him have threatened to boycott the Downs if it becomes the sole exemption of the smoking ban. And the battle continues.
