RALEIGH - If you're a smoker, you'll want to keep New Year's Day on your calendar.
That's the day smoking will be banned in North Carolina government buildings and facilities. The ban applies to buildings owned by the state, buildings leased by the state and areas of any building leased and occupied by the state.
"State employees who smoke need to know they will no longer be permitted to do so in state government facilities, including leased office space," Administration Secretary Britt Cobb said in a press release. "For those interested in quitting, this change might be just the motivation to succeed."
