A proposed ban on smoking once intended to prohibit smokers from lighting up in most destinations across Richmond but has since been amended to restrict smoking in fewer locations could be approved by city officials as early as Monday.
The Richmond Common Council will vote on the ordinance at its 7:30 p.m. public meeting in the third-floor council room of the Richmond Municipal Building at 50 N. Fifth St.
"It was drafted to curb secondhand smoke to all employees but that did not work," Mayor Sally Hutton said. "So we let it sit almost a year so people could come up with good solutions.
