The state’s smoking ban could be in place before the Super Bowl, if a key House panel votes in favor of it this week. One key Senate player, however, says there are no plans to fast-track the legislation.
Rep. Eric Turner, R-Cicero said the House Public Health Committee will vote Wednesday morning on a comprehensive ban that would forbid smoking in most places. Exceptions would include certain gaming facilities, cigar/hookah bars and private clubs. The House could take a final vote by Jan. 17.
Turner and Charlie Brown, D-Gary, have fought for a smoking ban the past six years. But the two think now could be their best chance, because Gov. Mitch Daniels has included the ban in his legislative agenda.
