SIOUX CITY (IA) - Of those who will be affected by Iowa's imminent smoking ban, it's a tossup as to whose nerves may be rattled the most -- smokers or those who welcome smokers.
When Gov. Chet Culver signs the bill into law Tuesday, smoking will be outlawed in bars, workplaces and restaurants, starting July 1. In short, the new law will ban most public smoking, with exceptions for the gaming areas of state-licensed casinos and the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Both houses of the Legislature passed the measure April 8.
Rick Fowler, owner of Bergies at 215 Fourth St, said pool players who typically light up when they start a game are unhappy about the smoking ban. "It drives them nuts because they're used to smoking when they're shooting."
