PHILADELPHIA, PA - The public smoking ban which was on a brief hiatus until the details of the law could be explained, is now in full effect. Health officials are expected to be out in full force to make sure bars and restaurants are complying with the ban, and then it will become part of their regular round of inspections after this initial week of its enactment. A few exemptions do exist, so there are still safe spots around the city for smoking enjoyment such as private clubs, hotels, tobacconist shops, and establishments which received official exemption status based on their volume of food sales. However, any violator who chooses to ignore the ban and light up where it's not permitted can expect to receive their fine of $300 if caught.
