Vanderburgh County's smoking ban will not be altered without public input, members of the next County Commissioners pledged Monday.
The county's ordinance banning smoking in most public places contains exemptions set to expire Jan. 2 for bars, taverns and clubs. But in the city, similar exemptions for restaurants, bars and taverns will continue.
Commissioner Troy Tornatta, who will be the senior member of the commissioners' new Democratic majority next year, has said he wants to continue the county's exemptions, bringing its ordinance in line with the city's.
