PHILADELPHIA, PA - If signed by Mayor Street, Philadelphia's present smoking ban will cease completely until the newly revised bill becomes effective on January 8, 2007. Currently, establishments need to meet the requirement of 10% or less of their annual income deriving from food or non-alcoholic products in order to be exempt from the ban. That percentage would change to 20% and is expected to increase the number of establishments that will now be able to qualify, therefore allowing more bars & restaurants to offer smoking to their patrons.
