ORLAND HILLS, IL - The small village of Orland Hills (population <7,000) has taken a stand against the ban on smoking. Though short-lived due to the fact that the county it lies within (Cook County) will soon be enacting a county-wide ban in March of 2007, the people of Orland Hills have chosen to go against the grain and allow people the choice -
to smoke or not to smoke. While many neighboring villages have already enacted their own bans in preparation of March's county-wide ban, to the delight of its residents, Orland Hills has remained firm on its decision. "If the federal government wants to ban smoking like it did drinking in the 1920s, then they should. But if they're giving us a choice, then they have to actually allow people to have that choice," remarked village administrator John Daly.
