ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA - Allegheny's countywide smoking ban began with one reported violation of a lone cigarette smoker who defied the law by lighting up inside a workplace. Health officials are asking people to phone complaints in to their office instead of calling 911. They're also encouraging complainants to take other measures before calling, like reminding the violator of the law, then speaking with an authoritative member of the business such as a manager. If at that point, no resolution is made, a phone call to the Allegheny County Health Department is appropriate.
