Officials to hold public hearing on issue after election

OCEAN CITY -- A possible smoking ban for Ocean City's beach won't appear on the town's municipal ballot in October, but resort officials say they will hold a public hearing about it following the election.
"I have a problem with putting this on the ballot," said Council President Joe Mitrecic. "The people of the town of Ocean City voted us in to make these decisions. We're the ones who are going to have to implement it, we're the ones who are going to have to figure out who is going to monitor this. We should come up with a plan before we go and just say, 'Do we want smoking on the beach or not?' "
