Navajo Nation President Ben Shelley signed an executive order today that bans smoking in public access spots and workplaces on the Navajo Nation, including a casino scheduled to open next summer.

Previous attempts to legislate a smoking ban failed until 2008, when the Navajo Council passed a comprehensive ban. Then-President Joe Shirley vetoed it.
