Twelve hours after the statewide smoking ban went into effect, lunchtime diners Monday at the Elbow Room said the problem isn't what the Minnesota Freedom to Breathe Act bans, it's the ban itself.
"It amazed me that the government would prohibit a business owner from having it in his own business if he chose," said Helen Seline.
She said neither she nor her lunch companion, Myron Cochran, ever smoked, and if they came across a restaurant that was too smoky they wouldn't eat there. Smoking, and allowing smoking in an establishment, is a matter of choice.
