SPRINGFIELD, IL - Add another state to the list of commonwealths approving a smoking ban from border to border. Public places in Illinois, including bars, restaurants, and even some private homes, will be smoke-free next year. The Illinois Senate's approval has firmed up any question of whether the ban would actually pass for the entire state, or if local communities would retain their right to govern the issue themselves. The statewide ban is scheduled to become effective January 1st, 2008.
