By J. Glynn Loope, Exec. Dir. | Cigar Rights of America
In a surprise move that would seek to restore property rights in Nevada, the Chair of the Assembly Ways & Means Committee is advancing legislation (AB 571) that would again allow for bars and taverns in Nevada that serve food but that do not have gaming, to again allow smoking (Read More).
This progressive measure is being supported by Assemblyman Mark Sherwood, R-Henderson as he stated about the state smoking ban, "It's been horrible for business. There are ways to do this [smoking ban] without being draconian." He's right.
Naturally, the non-profit health care community has condemned the legislation, and we need to do our part to support the work of the
Nevada Tavern Owners Association, that has pressed for such legislation since the passage of the statewide ban by referendum in 2006.
Please Take Action
Contact the membership of the Nevada Assembly and Senate. Tell them to support AB 571. Tell them it is about small business, property rights, and individual choices. This is a great opportunity for cigar enthusiasts in Nevada to restore some freedom, improve the local economy, and to send a message to other states considering similar legislation.
