The Kingston Whig Standard (CAN)
Although he now calls Kingston home, D. J. Berger (pronounced burger) is a Saskatchewan boy, and he looks the part, tall, broad-chested, and open-faced, as if he's slung hay bales for years in the bright yellow sun.
In fact, he's from the village of Purdue, named, or so the story goes, when a French pilot flying over the Prairies wailed into his radio, "Perdu! Je suis perdu!"
Berger tells the story with a laugh. Most things make his face spread into a smile: he sees the world with ironic whimsy, or is it whimsical irony? That was clear the first time we met, which was not in person, but through his delightful and provocative Cigartin Stories.
