Nevada's first governor vetoed about 30 pieces of legislation following the state's statehood in 1864. In 2009, Gov. Jim Gibbons set the bar higher vetoing, to-date, 48 separate bills. One of the few bills to escape the governor's veto stamp was anti-stalking legislation that carried an amendment to revise the 2006 voter-approved public smoking ban, again allowing smoking in the state's convention centers. By law, the governor has 10 days following the adjournment of the legislature to sign or veto approved legislation. By taking neither action, the bill automatically became law; it takes effect Dec. 10, 2009.
As previously stated by the Association, as smoking will again be allowed in convention centers, your trade association will move forward with negotiating space for the Annual Convention & International Trade Show for 2011. IPCPR already has contracted space for the 2009 and 2010 trade shows in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
