Can you think of ten great reasons to smoke cigars? If so, The Midwest Cigar Summit wants to know what they are as they ramp-up for their 2007
"Top 10 Reasons to Smoke Cigars" contest, Round 2. It sounds as if it may have been inspired by David Letterman, a brother of the leaf, himself.
Formerly called "The Havana Cigar Fest," the name had to be changed because Cigars International, who has a trademark on the term "Cigar Fest," threatened the group with a lawsuit over the use of the phrase.
This year's contest will take place at Hickory Grove Park, just outside of Peoria, IL on Saturday, September 8, 2007.
According to the information on the Midwest Cigar Summit website, during previous years, beginning in October of 2003, a few of the festivals were held in Havana, IL. And not unlike Havana, Cuba, the town has a history of cigar making that dates from the 1850s to 1960.
The top 10 winners of the 2007 "Top 10 Reasons to Smoke Cigars" contest will be chosen by members of the Central Illinois Gentleman's Cigar Society. Their names will be posted on the website and printed on the back of the T-shirts made for this year's Summit.
One of the current entries posted on the contest page is: "Because Fred Thompson does." Another entrant wrote, "Because it irritates my mother-in-law," among dozens of others you'll find on the site.
Each of the winning entrants will receive a T-shirt and other prizes, as well as being the guests of honor at the Summit on Sept. 8. If you'd like to be part of all the fun and madness, you can email your entries, which must include your name and location to:
