LANSING, Mich. – On Friday, Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed the smoking ban law, making Michigan the 38th state to prohibit smoking in public places, the Bay City Times reports.
The law takes effect May 1, 2010, and bans smoking in most workplaces, including restaurants and bars. However, cigar bars, Detroit casinos and tobacco specialty shops are exempt from the ban.
