The scene at many of New Hampshire's cigar lounges is relaxed: comfy leather chairs, the hum of soft music, a ballgame on the television, maybe dimmed lights, magazines and newspapers strewn about, good friends — and now maybe an ice cold beer or a glass of scotch.
Rep. John Hunt, R-Cheshire, introduced legislation this year that would allow cigar bars to sell alcohol. The measure gained approval in the state House of Representatives and the state Senate. Gov. John Lynch is expected to sign the bill into law.
Some say it's a step backward from the non-smoking ban New Hampshire enacted two years ago, effectively outlawing smoking in the state's bars and restaurants.
