Honduras is known as "The Cradle of Tobacco." 1,500 years ago, the Mayans used tobacco to invoke their gods and communicate with the spirit world. The word "cigar" is derived from the Mayan term "sicar," which means "to smoke."
To commemorate these ancient ties, the Honduran Association of Tobacco Growers and Cigar Makers, APROTABACOH, along with FIDE, the Honduran investment and export promotion institution, are hosting a world-class, multi-day cigar event called the Humo Jaguar Festival. The name honors Humo Jaguar, the legendary Mayan ruler of the city of Copan in Western Honduras.
This spectacular festival is a "must" for cigar makers, tobacconists, cigar loving consumers - literally anyone who appreciates the pleasures and intricacies of fine
cigars. It will take place Sunday through Thursday, February 13th through 17th at historic sites throughout Honduras. Attendees will explore the complexities of tobacco growing and the art of making fine cigars as well as experience an exciting excursion into the pre-Colombian heritage and natural treasures of this beautiful country.
The festival costs $1,250 per person for the five-day package, which includes first-class hotel accommodations, meals, events and excursions – virtually everything except airfare. Highlights include guided tours of Honduras’ acclaimed cigar factories and tobacco plantations, visits to museums and the magnificent Mayan ruins, seminars with the best-known cigar makers and industry experts, presentations on investment opportunities, gala evenings of dining and concerts, fiestas and much, much more.
Of course, attendees will get to savor the 2011 collections from the nation’s most prestigious cigar brands. Anyone with a passion for fine cigars will find the Humo Jaguar Festival to be a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience as well as an unforgettable vacation.
