Albuquerque, NM — The spirit of Miami's fabled Little
Havana district will take permanent residence in Albuquerque beginning on Friday, March 6, 2009 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, when the first-ever Club La Gloria Cubana® cigar lounge opens in Monte's Pueblo Pipe's new location on San Mateo Northeast.
A portion of the proceeds from the grand opening of Club La Gloria Cubana® will benefit the New Mexico branch of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation whose mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. General Cigar Company, which owns the La Gloria Cubana brand, has agreed to make a matching donation to the charity.
The event promises to welcome luminaries from Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico. Invited guests include Governor Richardson; Mayor Martin Chavez; Hank Andrews (Former Commander of Kirtland Air Force base); Michael Cerletti (Secretary of Tourism for the State of New Mexico) and Brian Colon, (Chairman of the Democratic National Committee for the State of Mexico), among others. Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, the world-renowned cigar master of La Gloria Cubana cigars will be on hand and will be joined by Leo Peraza, the brand's lead cigar roller who has been handcrafting cigars for more than 50 years. The event is reserved exclusively for invited guests.
Club La Gloria Cubana is the first of its kind in New Mexico. The 2,700 square foot cigar lounge is situated on two floors of a historic, 65-year old building. The interior has been refurbished to maintain the integrity of old Southwestern style, while giving a nod to Dominican architecture, with dark wooden accents. Boasting 108 private cigar lockers made of imported Spanish cedar and wired for the 21st century, Club La Gloria will cater to cigar aficionados and business people who recognize the opportunity to network with VIPs who hail from all over the state of New Mexico.
The Ribbon Cutting ceremony will begin at 5:30 PM. Interviews and photo opportunities will be available with proprietors, Larry and Jean Mote, and La Gloria Cubana Cigar Master Ernesto-Perez Carrillo.
