C.A.O. International Inc. has withdrawn its C.A.O. Cx2 brand from national cigar shops, effectively turning the cigar into a private-label.
The move, which happened quietly in October, leaves the Cx2 brand available only via Famous Smoke Shop, a Pennsylvania cigar shop that also sells on the Internet.
C.A.O. made a similar decision years ago when it turned its C.A.O. Black into an exclusive brand for online retailer Cigars International. A C.A.O. spokesman called the moves "rationalizing our portfolio."
