(Cigar Rights of America)
Just as packages are being wrapped, trees decorated, and hopefully a lot of shopping at your community tobacconist, politicians at every level of government are chiming in with news of regulation, taxation and further encroachment into your ability to enjoy a great cigar.
You can always tell when we are getting closer to the legislative season of a New Year, as whispers of proposed legislation begin to appear. It's happening, though, from the local courthouse, up to the statehouse, along with mixed holiday news from our nation's capitol, on new co-sponsors for the effort to keep the U.S. Food & Drug Administration out of your humidor, but then there is following story...

Although I watched Cigars: The Heart & Soul of Cuba with the intention of reviewing, I would have felt compelled to do so anyway. The film is a study of Cuban cigars, the creation process, and why they are the best cigars in the world. The film features James Suckling, an internationally acclaimed wine critic and journalist, and former European editor of Cigar Aficionado magazine. His passion for cigars shows through in his new movie, Cigars: The Heart & Soul of Cuba. Acclaimed director James Orr wrote and directed the film. Check out the official trailer below.

The price of cigars in Maryland could go up soon if one of the state’s most prominent health advocates has his way.
Vincent DeMarco, president of the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative, says he will push the General Assembly in January to increase the state’s 15 percent excise tax on cigars and smokeless tobacco — a rate that has not changed since 1999.

Last month, I asked Cigar Advisor newsletter readers to tell me what effect smoking cigars has had on their personal relationships, be it their wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, etc. This week we'll take a look at the responses and see whether you can relate to them or not.
I suppose I should start with myself: When I was married, my cigar smoking wasn't really an issue, because my wife (to my consternation), smoked cigarettes, and it was my job. However, we never smoked in the house. For one, she wouldn't permit it (sound familiar?), and secondly, we had two very young boys at the time.
