To: All members of the LACC I can now share a secret I've been keeping! Eager to honor our loyalty to civic works, Long Ashes Cigar Club's Kandahar Koughers Cigar Club care package 2.0 arrived safely in Afghanistan last week! Kandahar Koughers is a cigar club that meets once a month -- usually every last Friday -- in Afghanistan. Due to their schedule and dearth of products, their club relies heavily on donated cigars for its herfs. This being Long Ashes Cigar Club's second care package since August, we feel privileged to once again assist the brave men and women who form Kandahar Koughers Cigar Club.

Special Edition; Limitada; Reserva; Aniversario...when cigars have these titles, we know they are cigars of distinction; with one distinction being their high price. For example the "regular" Padron line sells in the $6 range, but if we want to sample the elite 80th Anniversary cigar, it will set us back a whopping $33! That’s more than five times the cost. Or take the Arturo Fuente line: $6 for their “regular” Sun Grown cigars vs. $79 for an Opus X "A"...ouch! That's thirteen times the cost! But are these cigars really worth the huge increase in price? Is this the only thing that makes them distinctive? Without breaking the bank I set out to see just how special these “special” cigars really were, and whether they were worth the extra expense. What I found was that this question had many answers and brought up some conflicting emotions.

By Gary Korb Happy holidays readers! Since we're just about out of 2011, I thought I would reflect on some of the cigars I enjoyed most this year. This is not a "Best Cigars of the Year" column; there are plenty of those for you to chew on. Since I didn't get to smoke all of the new releases this year (I still have some yet to smoke), what follows is a list of 10 cigars, some old, some new, that I personally found most memorable. If you haven't smoked them, think about adding some of them to your humidor.
E.P. Carrillo Elencos Series "Don Rubino" (5¼ x 50) When you're already a legend, how do you follow yourself? Ernesto P. Carrillo doesn't think about such things, he just keeps making great cigars. The Don Rubino from his Elencos series has a woody base with a hint of sweetness. Later, the cigar blooms into a full-bodied, well-balanced, and complex smoke laced with notes of extra-dark chocolate and espresso. A real "finger burner.

This article was originally planned to be about why so many crooks have a penchant for stealing cigars. It all started when, on almost a daily basis, I began seeing headlines from local newspapers in my Google alerts about convenience store and gas station robberies in which the perp(s) amscrayed not only with cash, cigarettes, and whatnot, but cigars, too. Here are just some headlines among the dozens of articles I read from all over the country:
Masked robbers steal cash, cigars from discount store
Theft of cigars leads to altercation with deputies
Cops: Man stole more than $300 worth of cigars from Barnegat Wawa
Robber Tells Victim: "Give Me Your. . .Cigar!"
Police: Man tunnels through 2 walls to ransack convenience store
Cops: Woman Assaults Future Son-In-Law Over Cigars
Eventually, I saw a pattern with these robberies. Why were the bandits not robbing traditional tobacconists and cigar stores? Finally, I asked a customer and friend of mine who is a Pennsylvania State Trooper, "What's up with all these cigars being taken in these robberies?" His answer was simple, and something I had already thought of, but I needed to know for sure.
