The state’s smoking ban could be in place before the Super Bowl, if a key House panel votes in favor of it this week. One key Senate player, however, says there are no plans to fast-track the legislation.
Rep. Eric Turner, R-Cicero said the House Public Health Committee will vote Wednesday morning on a comprehensive ban that would forbid smoking in most places. Exceptions would include certain gaming facilities, cigar/hookah bars and private clubs. The House could take a final vote by Jan. 17.

Recently, a certain cigar made of bubblegum (instead of tobacco), was placed in my hand to signify the birth of a new boy cousin just prior to the new year. The little pinkish-red bundle, named Avery, was sound asleep as we partook in the only form of cigars that the hospital would allow within 100 miles of their campus. The abolition of smoking the more popular paper and wrapper-leaf-encased tobacco in public view has drastically imposed on our abilities to celebrate newborns. Of course, I would never clip and light up in the same room as the baby, but a patio or lounge somewhere within a day's walking distance would have been nice.

High profile new magazine engages women through a combination of fashion, entertainment and the Art of Cigars.
(PRLog) -- Las Vegas, NV -- Coming this Spring 2012, a new lifestyle magazine will make its debut into the world of fashion, music, entertainment, luxury, and...cigars? Remarkably, the magazine appeals primarily to female hobbyists in the 22-55 age range, a segment that has gone ignored in a market dominated in the past by men. While the male audience has drawn the majority of the attention in former years, it is the women who are the primary buyers in the retail shopping and lifestyle industries, a prime target for the magazine. Its digital pre-release edition has drawn rave reviews online, thanks in part to a celebrity sponsor and co-founder, Merald "Bubba” Knight, III, songwriter/producer with Knightridahz Entertainment and choreographer for family icons Gladys Knight and the Pips.

Review of Exclusive Cigars Available to CRA Members Only By Gary Manelski | About.com Cigar Guide Receive two free cigars when you become a CRA member! A number of top cigar makers have crafted a limited number of exclusive cigars for Cigar Rights of America members, only. You can't get them anywhere else. This article is not about joining the CRA, which costs only $35 per year. This article is about the free cigars that will come to you for supporting an organization whose main objective is to protect your basic right and freedom to enjoy cigars. Besides a number of other benefits enjoyed by CRA members, the value of a couple of exclusive cigars can be worth almost half the price of admission alone, depending on which particular cigars that you happen to receive. Heck, some people have payed $35 or more for just one fake Cuban cigar, without contributing anything towards "the cause."
Mr. Manelski's review continues at cigars.about.com...

With a number of states seeming to heed the childhood cautionary words of their mothers, "If all your friends jumped off a bridge would you jump too?" they've so far resisted enacting smoking bans.
So it wasn't surprising to hear the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announce last month that it would be undertaking a study on the economic effects of smoking bans on bar and restaurants -- a partial concern that keeps some from taking this leap. It's being funded with a "partnership grant" from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

BLOG: By George Prentice | Boise Weekly
This is the day that, depending on whether you smoke, will be accepted with cheers or jeers.
Boise's new anti-smoking ordinances go into effect today, banning smoking in all bars and private clubs, near bus stops and transit areas, on outdoor commercial patios, the Grove Plaza and within 20 feet of city-owned buildings. Smoking is also banned in all city parks, save for two small designated smoking sections in Ann Morrison and Julia Davis parks.
