Q: I have recently ordered a couple of boxes from both
cigarauctioneer.com and famous-smoke.com and noticed that neither site ships with any type of humidifying device. I am new to the world of cigars but have

been told that a cigar can dry out in a couple of hours let alone the week or so it takes to ship to me here in CA. Can you put my mind at ease and explain to me why I shouldn't worry? Or should I?
- Joe in Madera, CA
A: You bring up an excellent subject, and of course, I can only speak for Famous Smoke Shop who does not ship with humidipaks. However, their boxes are probably the best-packed among all the retailers out there. Moreover, many manufacturers are now including branded
Boveda Humidipaks in their factory boxes, so, depending on your order, some boxes may already have one in there.
Now, here's why you needn't worry. Unless you leave it under a heat lamp, it takes more than a few hours to completely dry out a premium cigar. Add to that a recent conversation I just had with a manufacturer's rep on this very topic. He told me he found a cigar in a tuxedo he'd worn to a wedding almost a year earlier and the cigar was still smokeable. Its surprising how resilient cigars are.
Suffice it to say, cigars will stay fresh in their boxes for almost an entire month. I suppose the big question is, were the
cigars fresh and supple when you opened the boxes? Sure, there are those rare exceptions, but if they were OK, then chances are all of your Famous cigar orders will be fine.
