Q: When I smoke different sizes of the same cigar, should I expect the same taste profile? For instance, if I smoke an
Arturo Fuente Chateau and later a
Double Chateau, should I expect the same taste profile? Are they, in fact, made with the same filler,
binder and
wrapper, and differ merely in size?
- Joe O. in La Quinta, CA
A: Yes
and No. In terms of the
blend, the flavors will be similar, but in terms of the "character" of the smoke, for instance, the strength of the flavors, will be different, and you may discover flavors in one shape that you didn't pick-up in another.
Regarding the line, yes, the filler, binder, and wrapper components would be the same, as in the Rocky Patel Sun Grown Test Flight shown here. However, as I alluded to above, the size and width between
cigars within the same line extension, or blend for that matter, will reveal a shift in the general nature of the smoke, since, depending on the size and shape of the cigar, more or less
filler leaves are used. For example, in a thinner frontmark like a
Corona or a Lancero, you will taste more of the flavor of the wrapper, whereas as in a
Toro or a
Churchill the filler would have a greater impact on the overall flavors.
