Q: What is a "
canoeing" cigar? I know what a "
tunneling" cigar is; when the filler and
binder burns faster that the leaf, and, after awhile it looks like your smoking a tube. Please enlighten.
- Bob in Arlington, TX
A: Canoeing is when the cigar start to burn at an angle to the point where only one side is burning (
wrapper, binder and filler), creating a scooped-out effect, like one would carve out a tree trunk to make a canoe. If this has happened to you at some point, your cigar was "canoeing." It tends to happen when the cigar is improperly lit, too moist, or when the cigar was rolled the binder may have shifted.
