Q. I find
Maduro wrapper cigars very difficult to keep lit. Is there a secret to this that I'm missing, or am I just having bad luck? EMS and lighter wrappers burn well, but maduro and oscuros go out after about 3 to 5 minutes.

A. Interesting. Maduro wrappers tend to be a thicker and oilier, but there are many cigars, regardless of their wrapper, that will go out after 3-5 minutes if left unattended.
According to one of my top resources, maduro wrappers tend to burn better when stored at a lower humidity level, but it also depends on the type of wrapper, For example, CT Broadleaf is not the same as Nicaraguan Habano or sun-grown Brazilian.
If maduro cigars comprise most of your stock, try lowering the RH in your humidor closer to the 63% - 65% zone.
