Q. I have three humidors. When I receive my cigars (
Flor De Olivia) from you, I unwrap and place them in a three tiered humi. They are eventually transfered to a two layer humi. Here's my question: When I move the cigars to the final humi., (I call it "the ready to smoke" humi), is it OK to cut or punch the cigars prior to placing them in the "ready to smoke"
humidor? I have been doing this, as it makes it easier and quicker to select and lite a cigar. Is this in any way degrading the quality of my smoke?

A. Not necessarily. I've done this a few times myself, and found no harm in it. At Famous Smoke Shop, we have actually received (usually mistakenly) bundle cigars that were pre-punched. For whatever reason this is done I don’t know other than presuming that retailers have the option to order that way in certain cases.
If it works for you and does not affect the “character” or flavor of the cigar, then go for it. Since the cap is used primarily for keeping the wrapper properly adhered to the cigar, I see no problem in pre-clipping as long as you do not encounter any unraveling, or other problems.
