How would you compare the burn using a V-cutter vs. a punch or guillotine cutter?

Metal V-cutterQ: Do you find the cut you make on the cap, like V cut versus punch, etc., makes a difference in the burn? I have tried all three types of cutters and I find the V cut seems to work a little better, probably since it doesn't quite open it up as much as the punch or cutter does, so it draws a little slower. - Brian in Monticello, KY

A:
Actually, you will get a smoother and less tarry smoke with a wider opening at the head. I like the V-cutter for some cigars like Torpedoes, but use the double-blade 99% of the time.

One alternative would be to use the V cut, but bite down a little as the cigar smokes to open it up. This may help prevent some unwanted bitterness in the final inches.
