Q. I have been purchasing cigars from
Famous Smoke Shop for a year now and I am very pleased with the way they do business. I recently purchased two bundles of a
Famous Honduran 2000 Grand Toro’s (
shown) that were individually wrapped with a second
wrapper over the
bundle. The date is 6/2008. Can you explain the date? If so, where were they stored for the last year? Where I am going is, can they be smoked now, or would it be advisable to un-wrap them and put them in my
humidor for a couple of months?
- Russ M. in Batavia, NY
A. Yes, that was the date they were received by Shipping from the factory and subsequently moved into our climate-controlled warehouse. I’ve been smoking cigars that I've kept in the warehouse for myself. Some have been in there as long as three to four years and they’re fine.
As to their smokeability, you can put them in your humidor and start smoking them immediately. With already more than one year of post-factory aging on them, they should continue to mellow and improve.
