Cigar Review: Winston Churchill by Davidoff Lancaster Mini Belicoso

Winston Churchill Lancaster Mini BelicosoWinston Churchill Series by Davidoff "Lancaster Mini Belicoso"
Country of Origin: Dominican Republic
Size: 4½ x 46
Strength: Full
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Special Sun Grown Connecticut
Filler: 5 diverse Dominican Cuban-seed longfillers
Binder: Dominican Yamasá Cuban seed
Presentation: Tin of four cigars

Appearance & feel: A good-looking short figurado. Wrapper has an attractive reddish hue and silky feel with a few bumps. Neat cap. Well rolled with a nice feel all around and no noticeable soft spots. Cutter used: V-type

Draw: Good

Pre-light: The cold draw was very mild and nondescript.

Paired with: Mocha coffee and smoked in the morning.

First puffs: Very mellow and creamy with a nutty flavor.

Aroma: Sweet and mellow

Retrohale: Very light with virtually no sting in the nostrils during early stages. Had a little more zest near the middle, but still creamy. Like passing a cloud through my nose. Once into the second half it turned much more pepper, but was not harsh.

Burn & Ash: The cigar lit perfectly across. The burn was very clean, forming a firm grey/black marble ash.

Base flavors: Cedar, cream and sweet tobacco. The sweetness was likely enhanced by the Pelo de Oro. (Spanish for "golden hair," this is a wonderfully sweet-tasting leaf when cured right.)

Winston Churchill Lancaster Mini BelicosoGeneral assessment: The cigar started out extremely mild at the start; very smooth, but nothing "powerful" about it at this point. It went very well paired with the coffee. At its midpoint the cigar started to ramp up a bit in flavor revealing earthier and sweeter flavors with some sweet spices in the mix.

Summary: Overall, a nice smooth, relaxing smoke that's very creamy and aromatic. The last act offered the most flavor, which was mainly that of sweet cedar. I expected this cigar to be a little more complex. However, the juices didn't really flow until the last couple of inches, which is where it hit its full-flavor mark. Though I don't usually smoke small cigars, this was one of the better cigars I've had in this size. Moreover, I enjoyed it enough to smoke down to the last inch and can definitely recommend it. The price is not all that unreasonable either.
