Cigar of the Week: Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Robusto
Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Size/Strength: 5" x 52 / Medium
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut
Filler: Dominican, Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Presentation: Box of 25 cigars
This is one of those cigars that's become (IMO) a modern classic. Not only is this particular Romeo y Julieta blend among my all-time favorites, it seems to be a favorite of a lot of other cigar smokers, too. I haven't met a cigar smoker yet who doesn't agree that the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real selection is tremendous smoke. Moreover, the Robustos come 25 to a box, which is rare these days.
The blend consists of a perfectly balanced mix of Dominican and Nicaraguan longfillers, Nicaraguan binder and a silky, Ecuadorian-grown
Connecticut wrapper. The smoke is medium-bodied - definitely a notch up in fullness from the Romeo 1875 selection - and super creamy. I generally pick-up flavors of toasted nuts, sweet spices like nutmeg and cinnamon, and caramel toffee. The cigar also offers a clean burn, firm white ash, and an appealing aroma.
I view this cigar as "Rocky Patel meets Davidoff." The Dominican/Nicaraguan blend is something Rocky has used often to his credit, while the appearance and aroma of the wrapper remind me of a Davidoff. This is a first-class smoke that has something for everyone. You'd do your collection justice by having at least a 5-pack of these in your humidor. (Check out the other sizes, too.)
