Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sun-Grown Sumatra
Filler: Nicaraguan, Dominican
Binder: Dominican
Among the myriad Rocky Patel cigars out there, I chose the Rocky Patel Rosado Toro for this week's pick. Reason being, I feel this is one of those cigars that can be appreciated whether you're just discovering the pleasures of premium cigars, or have been smoking for years. Let's call it a "middle of the road" cigar for it's creamy, medium-bodied flavor, and stunning complexity. It's also reasonably-priced, very well made, and one of the cigars I enjoy coming back to when I get bored. So, if this cigar is new to you, it's well worth checking out.
Modeled on Rocky's bestselling Sun Grown edition, the Rosado blend starts with a long-aged Nicaraguan and Dominican longfillers, Dominican binder, and the coup de gras, a five-year-aged Ecuadorian sun-grown Sumatra-seed wrapper which gives this cigar its extra-smooth taste.
At 6" x 50 the Rosado Toro offers nice proportions for getting into this ultra-creamy smoke that starts out mellow and builds to a delicious full-flavored treat with just enough spice in the mix to keep it interesting. The base flavors are earthy, woody and nutty with an underlying sweetness. Notes of nutmeg, mocha, and espresso creep in along the journey with a dash of white pepper on the
finish. Another fine feature of this cigar is its ash, which refuses to let go; once it does, it reveals a nice round cherry. I've rarely had a Rosado that didn’t burn clean, too.
If you're looking for a well-balanced cigar that hits on all cylinders, the Rocky Patel Rosado Toro is an ideal "go-to" stick.
