If you're freaky for full-bodied cigars, El Rico Habano is one of those classic brands that's been around since the early 1970's, yet easily stands up to today's myriad full-bodied offerings. The brand was first produced at the El Credito Factory in "Little Havana," Miami, where La Gloria Cubana Artesanos de Miami cigars are made, and in over 30 years, little has changed. The blend currently consists of Nicaraguan longfiller & binder rolled in a sweet and savory Sumatra wrapper sun-grown in Ecuador.

If you really want to get a really good sense of what El Rico Habano cigars are all about, I suggest starting with the Corona Supremo. It's a Toro-sized vitola that offers the hearty flavor, excellent balance and a marvelous aroma. The proportions are just right, too, for tapping-in to this brand that may not be familiar to younger cigar smokers. The cigars get their smoothness and rich, woody character from being extra-aged in a room made entirely of Spanish cedar.

Though they were considered a "powerhouse cigar" when introduced, El Rico Habano cigars still have a fair amount of complexity and kick. They are undoubtedly full-bodied and complex, but I would classify them more as "full-flavored" by today's standards. Moreover, it would not be unfair to compare them to cigars such as Tatuaje, 601, and Liga Privada No.9, to name a few of the more recent full-bodied imprints.

So, instead of trying something new this week, try something older. It just may be new to you and wind up as one of your favorites. Check out the Corona Supremo reviews, too.
