The Arturo Fuente Flor Fina 8-5-8 cigar is a true classic. Mellow, flavorful, flawlessly constructed, and amazingly consistent from box to box. Plus, it's one of the few cigars that still comes in boxes of 25. I can't tell you how many cigar smokers (yours truly included), that list this cigar among their top favorites.
I started with the Cameroon, shown here, then moved to the Maduro. Though I tend to order the Maduro more often for its sweeter taste, the two blends are pretty much interchangeable; you can't really miss with either of them. For my next 8-5-8 purchase I was planning on going back to the Cameroon, too. It has a mild, sweet-woody character with notes of nutmeg in the mix, and the aroma is incredibly alluring.
Here's a little cigar trivia for you, too. Do you know how this cigar got to be called the "8-5-8?"
"...My father showed me how to blend the tobaccos into a shape which later became known as the Flor Fina 8-5-8®. And when my father passed away at the age of 85, as a way of honoring him and as a means of expressing our eternal love for him, we called it 8-5-8 so that the number would be legible from both directions. It became very well accepted almost immediately. Since he was instrumental in originating this cigar, I am sure he would be delighted to know that the 8-5-8 is still our largest selling shape." - Carlos Fuente Sr.
The Flor Fina 8-5-8 is one of those "must-smoke" cigars. If you haven't yet had the pleasure, get your hands on one - and quickly, too - they don't stay in stock for very long.
