Is freezing 200 cigars a good idea?

by Gary Korb

Q: I recently won 200 cigars in wooden boxes. Since I can't smoke them all, I placed them in a freezer and will take them out when I need them. Is this a good idea?

A: There was no need to place them in the freezer at all. They should last for at least a month in their boxes, provided you kept them in a cool, dark space in your house. I presume you either have no humidor or your humidor is too small for all of them. In that case, I would purchase a large plastic storage box and keep the boxes in there with a small sponge dampened (NOT soaked) with distilled water or 50/50 PG solution. You can also use a large humidifier Keep an eye on them and they'll last almost forever that way.

I'm just not a fan of freezing cigars. To read more on this subject and some excellent comments, see my blog: Freezing Your Cigars - How Risky Is It?
